The ideal reading experience involves a nice cup of tea, most probably Earl Grey. Describe your ideal reading experience (when, where, what, how). I wanted to remember who I was and the potency of Claude Brown’s words. I wanted to revisit that during the pandemic. It was the first novel I read when I was younger that shifted my life and shifted my identity. I recently reread “Manchild in the Promised Land,” by Claude Brown. The kind that requires you to put your truth out there in a way that can celebrate or ostracize you. The last great book I read was Roxane Gay’s “Hunger.” Honest, painful, smart, transparent, authentic.
